After starting an adventure playground in Charlestown, then a working class neighborhood of Boston, and organizing the building of a community playground in East Boston, I enrolled at MIT where I received a Masters in Architecture in 1979.
Several years in offices, and three children later, I started my own firm, “West Hill Architects.” In 2004 the firm moved from a hill to a park and was renamed Osborn Studio +. Over the past 20 years, we have completed more than 300 residential and non-profit projects. The firm has received 3 awards from the Brookline Historical Preservation Commission and has had projects published in several magazines.
A personal goal of building community led to my involvement in the Brookline public schools, where I co-chaired the local and high school PTOs, and was on the board of the Brookline Education Foundation. Other Board and Trustee work includes Brookview House, a transitional shelter for homeless families in Boston, Brookline Greenspace Alliance and the Brookline Community Fund. A love of traditional handcrafts has kept me on the Board of the North Bennet Street School for many years. Photography, travel, and personal renovation projects keep me busy when I am not working or with family and friends.
Matt is my oldest son and is working at Osborn Studio + as a draftsman, model maker and office administrator. After graduating from Dartmouth College with a degree in Studio Art, Matt spent 2 years in the Peace Corps in rural Morocco. He worked as a model maker for William Rawn Associates. He lives in Jamaica Plain where he spends his free time as a community activist on a variety of peace and justice initiatives.
